Clipping the wing of a chicken is the most common way to control the flight of Homestead chickens. The clipping involves using sharp shears to cut off the first ten flight feathers of onewing. The clipping results in the chicken having a lack of balance they need for flight. Be aware the clipping lasts only until new feathers grow back during the next molt. So the clipping has to be repeated during the life of the chicken. A potential problem is that clipped feathers may not readily fall out during the molt, requiring your assistance.
Now lets watch the video that shows how to clip the wings of your chicken.
